The Delta State government has approved the 2025 bursary awards for students in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Executive Secretary, Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Godfrey Enita, confirmed this during a meeting with national executives of National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).

According to him, the approval covers scholarships for students with disabilities, children of deceased civil servants, and financial assistance for Delta students at Nigerian Law Schools.

He stated, “I assure you that the governor’s gesture is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.”

Mr Enita explained the meeting followed concerns raised by students over delays in the 2025 bursary payments.

“I assure you that the government remains committed to its obligations and the board has commenced processing payments for the approved bursaries and scholarships,” he said.

He added that financial assistance earlier approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for Delta State students at Nigerian Law Schools was also being processed.

He said, “A total of 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary awards. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities will receive scholarships, while 533 Law School students will benefit from special assistance.”

Mr Enita said the Mr Oborevwori administration placed high premium on education as a pillar for sustainable development and human capital advancement.

The NADESSTU president, Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph, and senate president, Idiseru Alex, welcomed the approval and thanked the governor for his continued support.

They described the gesture as timely and impactful, saying it would ease financial strain on many students and their families.

The student leaders pledged loyalty and continued support to the Delta State Government, commending Mr Oborevwori’s responsiveness to students’ welfare. (NAN)
