Nigeria congratulates The Gambia on Independence Day
As The Gambia celebrates its Independence Day, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar has extended heartfelt wishes for peace and sustainable development to the Gambian people.
According to Mr Tuggar, the significant occasion not only marks the nation’s journey since gaining freedom on February 18, 1965, but also serves as a reminder of the resilience and aspirations that define its citizens.
In a statement by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Mr Tuggar conveyed his congratulations to The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sering Njie, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad.
He emphasised that the anniversary is a moment for reflection on the enduring commitment to sovereignty and democratic governance.
“The independence anniversary is a powerful reminder of The Gambia’s resilience and the aspirations of its people,” Mr Tuggar noted.
He acknowledged that the celebrations are not only filled with parades and national festivities but also highlight a deep-rooted commitment to unity and effective governance.
Mr Tuggar also pointed out the longstanding and fraternal relationship between Nigeria and The Gambia, rooted in common history, cultural affinity, and shared memberships in regional and international organisations such as ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.
He praised the collaboration between the two countries in advancing democratic norms, regional stability, and economic integration within West Africa.
The ongoing partnership spans various sectors, including political dialogue, security collaboration, trade, education, and technical assistance.
As The Gambia gathers to celebrate this significant milestone, Nigeria stands in solidarity, honoring the resilience of its people and wishing them continued peace and sustainable development as they look toward the future.
