A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, sentenced three men to various jail terms for stealing aluminium frames and receiving stolen property.

The convicts are Ridwan Oloyede, Leke Oluwasegun Leke and Seye Ogunsola.

Oloyede was convicted of break-in and stealing while Oluwasegun and Ogunsola were convicted of two-count charge of conspiracy and receiving stolen items.

Delivering the judgment, Magistrate I.O. Ogunfemi, held that all evidence presented in court by prosecution counsel proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendants were guilty of the offences as charged.

Ogunfemi sentenced Oloyede, to 42 months imprisonment- 30 months on count one for breaking into the facility and 12 calendar months without an option of fine for count two– stealing aluminium frames, property of Olumo Rock Tourist Centre.

The magistrate held that the sentences would run consecutively.

For Oluwasegun and Ogunsola, charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen property, Mr Ogunfemi  convicted and sentenced the two to five years imprisonment each.

He sentenced each convict to three years imprisonment for conspiracy and two years imprisonment for receiving stolen property, which are also to run consecutively.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Adewusi Ojo, told the court that the offences were committed on January 22, 2025, at Olumo Rock, Ikija area in Abeokuta.

Mr Ojo said the first defendant, Oloyede, unlawfully broke into the facility and stole aluminium iron frames valued at N720,000.

He stated that while Oloyede was fleeing the scene with the stolen items, Oluwasegun and Ogunsola intercepted him and questioned the source of the items.

The prosecutor said that Oloyede confessed that they were stolen from the tourist centre.

Ojo further told the court that the Oluwasegun and Ogunsola collected the items from him and warned him not to inform anyone.

He said the duo later conspired and sold the aluminium frames to a scrap dealer, knowing them to be stolen property.

Ojo said the offence committed contravened Sections 411, 383, 390, 516 and 427 of the Criminal Code Law, of Ogun, 2006.
