Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has called for improved service delivery during the swearing-in of 32 permanent secretaries.

Mr Aiyedatiwa, during the swearing-in on Friday in Akure, the state capital, urged the permanent secretaries to ensure effective delivery of government policies and programmes.

He said the exercise, which was the third since his administration assumed office, was part of efforts to reposition the state’s bureaucracy for greater efficiency and improved service delivery.

According to him, the public service is a time-tested institution that drives government policies and programmes.

“Political leadership may change, but the public service remains the engine room of governance. I am aware that many of you have acted in the capacity of accounting officers for considerable periods without commensurate remuneration, yet you continued to give your best.

“Your appointment is, therefore, a formal recognition of your stewardship and dedication to duty. Be reminded them that your new positions come with enormous responsibilities. Work towards advancing our developmental blueprint and ensuring that government policies translate into tangible benefits for the people.

“This government has recruited over 4,000 personnel into key sectors such as teaching, health, legal, agriculture, administration, culture, and taxation to strengthen the workforce,” the governor said.

Earlier, the state head of service, Bayo Philip, urged the permanent secretaries to demonstrate diligence, loyalty, and commitment in their duties.

Mr Philip described their appointment as the start of a new phase of responsibility, stressing the need to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Responding, one of the permanent secretaries, Lanre Akarakiri, appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve and promised to uphold the civil service rules.
