Bandits abduct wife, son in latest attack on Kwara community
Suspected bandits have again thrown residents into panic when they reportedly stormed Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State and kidnapped a housewife and her son during the attack.
It was gathered that the assailants stormed the community on Saturday night and took the abducted victims to an unknown destination.
Residents, who anonymously spoke to Peoples Gazette on Sunday, said the bandits arrived unnoticed, scared residents with gun and eventually abducted the wife and son of a resident identified as Alhaji Abbas.
“It was a targeted attack. The bandits came in the night, shot briefly and proceeded to Alhaji Abbas (Daniyan Saba) residence where they took his wife and son away to an unknown destination,” a resident said.
Another resident, who stated that Mr Abbas’ manager was kidnapped last year, said the attackers entered the community unhindered, forcefully whisking the victims away.
“Last year, Alhaji Abbas’ manager was kidnapped,” the resident said. “We don’t know where his wife and son were taken to after the unfortunate attack yesterday. This should not continue. How could terrorists enter the village so freely and kidnap people from a house very close to the road in the town? Something must be done.”
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi did not immediately reply to a request seeking comment on the latest development.
Killings and Kidnappings for ransom have continued in several Kwara communities especially Edu, Patigi, Ifelodun, Kaiama and other local governments, with residents demanding the government to address the crisis head-on.
In February, bloodthirsty terrorists stormed Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA, massacred over 200 innocent residents and kidnapped several others. Till today, the kidnap victims had not be rescued even after they were paraded by the terrorists.
Meanwhile, defence chief Olufemi Oluyede, last month, launched Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield to combat insecurity in Kwara and parts of Niger.
