Iran denied rockets fired into Turkish airspace, says Türkiye

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied that two rockets fired towards Türkiye originated from Iran, according to the Turkish government.
During a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mr Pezeshkian stated that the missiles that entered Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin and that the issue would be thoroughly investigated, according to a statement by the Turkish presidency on Tuesday.
NATO member Türkiye said on Monday that a ballistic missile launched from neighbouring Iran was neutralised by the alliance’s defence systems while entering Turkish airspace.
Some debris fell on open land near the southern city of Gaziantep close to the Syrian border, Türkiye’s defence ministry said.
Last week, a NATO air defence system in Türkiye’s border region with Iran also intercepted a ballistic missile. Debris from that missile fell in the province of Hatay on an open area.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
During the call with Mr Pezeshkian, Mr Erdoğan condemned both the Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran as well as Iranian strikes on several countries in the region, the Turkish presidency said.
The Iranian attacks on “brotherly countries” benefited no one and must stop, Mr Erdoğan said.
