An eighteen-year-old Nigerian man has been convicted and sentenced over a pregnant goat.

Specifically, a customary court in Kafanchan, Kaduna, handed 18-year-old Gado Adamu five months’ imprisonment for stealing a pregnant goat.

Mr Adamu was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, contrary to sections 345 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penalty Code Law.

When the charge was read to Mr Adamu, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

Delivering her ruling, the presiding judge, Patience Baryat, sentenced Mr Adamu to three months in prison for unlawful possession of a weapon.

She, however, gave the convict the option of a N20,000 fine.

Ms Baryat also sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment or a fine of N10,000 for theft.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Favour Solomon, told the court that the matter was reported at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on February 2.

Mr Solomon said that Mr Adamu was apprehended by some people in Zankan village with the pregnant she-goat worth N160,000.

He said Mr Adamu was also caught with a dane gun without a licence.
