One feared dead as explosion rocks Kwara community

One person was reportedly dead after an explosion rocked the Woro-Nuku community of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, throwing residents into panic.
The incident occurred less than 24 hours after suspected bandits invaded an ECWA Church in the Omugo community, Ifelodun LGA of the state, and abducted eight worshippers during church service on Sunday.
Residents, who anonymously spoke to Peoples Gazette, said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday when a car ran past the explosives allegedly placed on the road.
“There was an explosion between the Woro and Nuku communities this morning. Three people, including a woman and a child, were involved in the incident. They put the explosion on the road. Soldiers are at the place at the moment,” one of the residents said.
Another resident stated that a woman was injured in the incident, while her little child escaped unhurt.
He noted, “The IED incident occurred on a road a distance from Woro. The IED went off as a vehicle drove past it on Monday. His passenger, a woman with a little child, sustained injuries. The woman has been taken to a hospital for immediate medical attention.”
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi could not be reached immediately for comment on the development.
