Lagos LCDA warns residents against indiscriminate refuse disposal
The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has warned residents against indiscriminate disposal of refuse in gutters and other unauthorised places.
The council said such acts would attract sanctions.
Its chairman, Akinola Idowu, issued the warning in a statement by his chief press secretary, Sunday Adefamoye, on Tuesday.
Mr Idowu said indiscriminate dumping of refuse could cause flooding and pose serious environmental sanitation challenges, especially with the rainy season approaching.
He stressed that the council had intensified efforts to sensitise residents on proper waste management and the need to keep the environment clean.
The council boss warned that indiscriminate waste disposal blocks drainage channels and threatens public health and safety.
Mr Idowu urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining a clean environment, adding that violators would be apprehended and sanctioned accordingly.
He assured that the council would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to enforce environmental laws and ensure a healthier community
