The Federal Road Safety Corps has restricted over 300 articulated vehicles and trucks from movement on the ever-busy Kugbo outbound corridor during peak hours in Abuja.

The FRSC recorded this significant success since the commencement of its ongoing enforcement operation codenamed ‘Operation Safe Kugbo’ in Abuja.

A statement on Wednesday said that the exercise began on Thursday.

It said that the operation was a proactive initiative conceived by the FRSC corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and driven at the sector level.

It explained that it was strategically designed to mitigate road traffic crashes in line with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations, particularly Section 223, as well as the extant FCT Traffic Regulations.

It added that it also aligned with the FRSC’s 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, which prioritised reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities nationwide.

“On day two of the operation, the unit commander, Nyanya, led a team of dedicated operatives in a well-coordinated enforcement drive that resulted in the restriction of 96 articulated vehicles/trucks during peak periods.

“This figure was the highest record of restriction since commencement. The cumulative total of restricted vehicles since the operation began was about 300, reflecting a high level of compliance and operational effectiveness within a short period,” said FRSC.

FRSC noted with satisfaction that since the commencement of the operation, the corridor had recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles during the restricted hours.

This, it said, underscored the impact of proactive traffic management and strict enforcement.

“To ensure seamless execution, the operation was supported by adequate logistics, strategic deployment of personnel, and real-time traffic monitoring. All of which contributed to improved traffic flow and enhanced safety along the corridor,” it added.

FRSC reiterated that the restriction was not punitive but a necessary safety measure aimed at protecting lives and property. This, it maintained, was especially during high-traffic periods when the risks associated with heavy-duty vehicles are significantly elevated.

“Motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers are therefore urged to continue to cooperate with the corps by complying fully with the stipulated restrictions,” she said.

The FRSC assured the public of its commitment to sustaining the operation and replicating similar safety-driven initiatives across other critical corridors within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
