Prolonged use of smartphones, laptops poses health challenges, expert warns

An expert, Uche Nwaku, has called for the responsible use of technological devices to avoid potential health risks associated with electromagnetic waves.
Mr Nwaku, who works with Shownic Health Technology, Lagos, made the call on Friday at a seminar organised by the Local Government Service Commission for workers in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra.
Mr Nwaku cautioned that excessive use of devices such as smartphones, laptops, and earphones could expose users to harmful electromagnetic radiation, with possible implications for human health.
“We are supposed to apply caution in handling our technological devices to reduce the challenges which accompany their usage.
“Records have shown that these devices contribute to various health challenges that may shorten human life,” he said.
The expert noted that many people remained unaware of the dangers posed by electromagnetic waves and stressed the need for increased public sensitisation.
“Workers should disseminate the information within their communities to help curb cases of sudden deaths and health complications linked to prolonged exposure,” he said.
Mr Nwaku also advocated the adoption of safer habits, including limiting prolonged device use and maintaining health consciousness, as measures to mitigate risks.
He further introduced an anti-radiation protective shield, described as a device designed to minimise the effects of electromagnetic waves on users.
