Security agents rescue abducted Ondo health workers, hunt perpetrators

Suspected gunmen in the early hours of Saturday abducted six health workers at a government health facility in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The assailants reportedly stormed the hospital located in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, abducting nurses and other health workers who were on night duty.
A patient at the facility who was lucky to escape spoke with the Peoples Gazette on condition of anonymity.
The patient said some interns assisting the health workers in the facility were among those abducted.
“It was around 2:00 a.m. when we started hearing a noise and order for people to move into a vehicle. I saw torchlights from where I hid. They ordered everyone on sight into the vehicle,” the patient narrated.
Confirming the development in an interview with The Gazette, the spokesperson for the state police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, said a joint security operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from the hospital.
Mr Abayomi said the victims had been rescued and efforts ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
He said, “We were able to rescue the victims and we are on the trail of the perpetrators. I will give more details soon”
