The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 37-year-old Opeyemi Olaniyan for allegedly stabbing Ayomide Oyekunle, 27, to death with a broken bottle at a beer parlour in Agbado, Ifo Local Government Area, on Saturday.

Spokesperson for the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect had gone to the bar to demand payment of a N25,000 debt owed since last year.

However, when he did not get a response, Mr Olaniyan reportedly became violent, broke a bottle, and threatened to stab anyone nearby.

Mr Babaseyi said, “On 04/04/2026 at about 2330 hrs, one Oriade Kehinde ‘M’ reported at Agbado Division that while he was at his beer parlour, one Opeyemi Olaniyan ‘M’, aged 37 years, came to demand the sum of twenty-five thousand naira owed to him since last year.

“When the suspect did not receive an immediate response, he became violent, broke a bottle, and threatened to stab anyone within the premises. In the course of being prevented from gaining entrance into the bar, the suspect used the broken bottle to stab one Ayomide Oyekunle ‘M’, aged 27 years, on the hand and stomach.

“The victim was immediately rushed to Strong Tower Hospital, Giwa Oke Aro, for medical attention, but later died while receiving treatment. The suspect is in police custody for investigation. The corpse has been deposited at Life Channel Morgue, Olambe, for autopsy.”

According to the command, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.
