The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, has ordered the detention of some anti-cultism officers over claims they harassed two individuals and attempted to seize their mobile phones in Ojuelegba.

The state police command disclosed this on X on Tuesday in response to a video showing one of the officers struggling for possession of a phone belonging to the harassed victim while another officer attempted to seize the phone of a bystander recording the incident.

The X user @egykmykel1 captioned the video, “Police impunity is back on full display. At Ojuelegba under bridge, Lagos, the anti-cultism squad officers are harassing youths and confiscating their phones.”

Reacting, the command said, “The officers involved have been identified and brought before the commissioner of police. Their statements have been obtained, and he has ordered their detention pending further investigation.

“Meanwhile, the command has contacted the complainant, who is expected to report tomorrow to provide his statement and assist in the ongoing investigation. The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”
