Eight killed in fresh Plateau attack
Suspected bandits on Thursday night killed eight persons and injured one in Mbwelle village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 10 p.m. when the assailants stormed the community.
Speaking to Peoples Gazette on Friday, the Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Kefas Mallai, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.
Mr Mallai said eight persons were killed, while one person sustained injuries during the raid
“Eight people were killed and one was injured during the attack in the Mbwelle community. No abduction, but all those killed were Christian natives,” he said.
Mr Mallai said the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Samuel, had visited the scene and helped to calm the situation.
“Beatrice Lucky 35yrs sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment. Mr Samuel went to the village, and he was able to calm people down. He put the situation under control, and security is now investigating,” he said.
He added, “We don’t know whether they will be able to reach out to the perpetrators, but the situation has already come under control. People who are being suspected are Fulani herders.”
The latest attack comes a week after gunmen struck the Agwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, killing at least 28 persons.
When contacted by The Gazette, Alfred Alabo, the police spokesman in the state, confirmed the incident, saying the command is still investigating.
“We are still investigating the matter,” he said.
