Eight children die, two injured in fresh U.S. gun violence

Eight children were killed in Shreveport, Louisiana, United States of America on Sunday, according to the Louisiana police.

The police said the children, aged between 1 to 14 years, were murdered during a shooting that left two other people wounded.

The Shreveport Police Department said it received a disturbamce report, and responded to the incident on West 79th Street at about 06:00 a.m. 

The spokesperson for the department, Christopher Bordelon, said the crime scene was extensive, and covered two homes on West 79th Street and a third house on nearby Harrison Street.

Mr Bordelon said that police officers shot and killed the only suspect linked to the killings, during a chase in Bossier Parish.

Gun violence is listed a public health crisis in the United States, as several have died of gun violence in the North American country.

The Gun Violence Archive noted that over 3,600 people were killed in the U.S. between January and April 2026.
