Gov Yusuf nominates Murtala Garo as Kano deputy governor

Governor Abba Yusuf has submitted the name of Murtala Garo to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as deputy governor.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, announced in a statement on Wednesday that the position became vacant following the resignation of Abdulsalam Gwarzo in March.
“The nomination is in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the governor to nominate a deputy governor where a vacancy exists.
“The position became vacant following the voluntary resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026,” the statement said.
It disclosed that after extensive consultations with key stakeholders, the governor asked the assembly to approve Mr Garo’s nomination.
“Forty-eight-year-old Murtala Sule Garo is a seasoned political administrator with over two decades of service in both elective and appointed positions.
“He has served as the state organising secretary of his party, special adviser to the Kano state governor and elected Kano local government chairman,” said the statement.
Before his nomination, Mr Garo served as chairman of ALGON in Kano and as commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs.
According to the statement, Mr Garo’s nomination aims to strengthen governance and sustain service delivery in the state.
