Senate Minority Whip (PDP-Enugu), Osita Ngwu, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection of Mr Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District, was announced in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday.

Mr Ngwu, in his letter, said that he was resigning from the PDP that sponsored his election to the Senate to the APC due to an internal crisis in the party.

He said, “I write to notify the distinguished Senate of my resignation from PDP and also notification of my membership in the APC.”

He said that the crisis in the PDP made it impossible for him to actualise the aspirations of his senatorial district.

He stated, “Consequently, I have chosen to align myself with the progressive values of the APC, the only stable platform currently in Nigeria, and to support the empowering agenda of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and my state governor, who is also in the APC.

“I offer my sincere gratitude to the former PDP and wish the party were able to put its house in order.”

Following Mr Ngwu’s defection, Mr Akpabio announced that Tony Nwoye (ADC – Anambra) is now the new minority whip of the Senate.

Similarly, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Aliyu Wadada, formally announced his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC.

His defection was announced in a letter also read by Mr Akpabio at plenary.
