Oprah Winfrey signs Amazon deal to produce video podcasts, specials

American host and TV producer Oprah Winfrey has signed a multi-year agreement with Amazon to expand her series ‘The Oprah Podcast’ across audio and video platforms.
The deal, announced on Tuesday, involves Harpo Entertainment and Amazon’s podcast arm, Wondery, which will now hold exclusive distribution and advertising rights to the show.
Beginning in July, the podcast will be available across Amazon services, including Prime Video, Amazon Music, Fire TV, and Audible, while remaining accessible on YouTube and other podcast platforms.
As part of the agreement, the podcast will increase its output to two episodes per week.
The partnership also grants Amazon access to the extensive library of ‘Oprah Winfrey Show’, along with rights to ‘Oprah’s Book Club’, and ‘Oprah’s Favourite Things’.
The podcast was launched as a platform for meaningful dialogue, featuring Ms Winfrey in conversations with thought leaders, authors, and cultural figures on themes ranging from resilience, renewal and connection.
The show has hosted high-profile guests including Serena Williams, Hugh Jackman, Kate Hudson, and Adam Grant.
In its first year, 2024, the podcast earned a Gracie Award for Video Podcast Host, received four Ambie Awards nominations, and secured a Webby Awards nomination.
It was also ranked number two by Podscribe in January.
Ms Winfrey said, “Hosting this podcast allows me to continue the work I feel called to do, opening the door for conversations that matter.”
Steve Boom, the company’s vice-president of audio, Twitch, and games, said her brand remains “one of the most iconic, timeless” in the world.
Matt Sandler, general manager of creator services at Amazon, added that Ms Winfrey’s ability to build a direct connection with audiences continues to grow.
The podcast joins Amazon’s growing list of creator-led content, including shows hosted by Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, Keke Palmer, and Dax Shepard.
