Governor Abba Yusuf has congratulated Ibrahim Shekarau on his 71st birthday.
This was stated in a congratulatory message issued by the commissioner of information and internal affairs, Sanusi Bature, on Friday.
The governor described Mr Shekarau as a prominent leader whose contributions to public service and Kano’s development remain noteworthy.
Mr Yusuf acknowledged the former governor’s longstanding commitment to education, public administration, politics and community development.
“His years of service have earned him a significant place in the political and social history of Kano state,” he said.
He particularly recognised Mr Shekarau’s background as an educationist and his dedication to the teaching profession before venturing into public administration, where he served as permanent secretary in the civil service of Kano.
“He subsequently emerged as governor of Kano state for two consecutive terms between 2003 and 2011, a minister, and a senator of the federal republic,” he said
He described the former governor’s leadership and governance experience as an important contribution to the state’s democratic development.
According to Mr Yusuf, the wisdom and experience remain valuable in building a peaceful, united and progressive Kano.
He further noted that birthdays provide an opportunity to reflect on the lives and contributions of individuals who have served their communities and society while encouraging continued commitment to peace, unity and the collective advancement of Kano.
