The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has conferred the title of “Soniyanko Nupe” on the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

Mr Abubakar, who is also the chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, announced this during the first lady’s courtesy visit to his palace in Bida on Saturday.

The monarch said the honour was in recognition of the humanitarian support and assistance rendered by Mrs Tinubu to victims of insecurity and natural disasters, especially the flooding in Mokwa in the state.

Mr Abubakar also described President Bola Tinubu as a friend of the Nupe Kingdom and assured him of continuous support and prayers for the success of policies and programmes for the nation’s development.

Responding, Mrs Tinubu appreciated the monarch for the honour and pledged continued support to the palace and the people of Niger State.

She said the conferment of the traditional title had further challenged her to do more for the Nupe Kingdom and the state at large.
