Governor Sheriff Oborevwori says spiritual leaders will continue to shape society’s destiny and strengthen its stability.
The governor spoke on Sunday during a thanksgiving service at Word of Life Bible Church in Warri, Delta.
The service honoured Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and Archbishop Felix Omobude after their survival from a recent air incident.
Mr Oborevwori said spiritual fathers remained essential to leadership, governance and national development across generations.
He warned politicians against dishonouring respected clerics, saying such actions could attract consequences.
“Any politician who disrespects fathers of faith is heading for doom,” the governor said.
He added that spiritual guidance, prayers and godly counsel remained indispensable in public service.
The governor attended with his deputy, Monday Onyeme. Also present were the speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, and other senior government officials.
Mr Oborevwori described Mr Oritsejafor as a spiritual father whose ministry had transformed countless lives worldwide.
“Today, I am standing before our Fathers of Faith, and I feel deeply honoured to be here. I told my deputy governor we must attend this celebration because it is not a funeral gathering.
“It is a celebration of God’s faithfulness and mercy. We thank God for preserving him and Archbishop Felix Omobude,” he said.
The governor recalled his long-standing relationship with Mr Oritsejafor, saying he had always admired his service to Christianity and humanity. He said the presence of clerics from different places reflected Mr Oritsejafor’s enduring influence through ministry and mentorship.
“I made it a duty to honour Papa’s invitation because of the role he continues to play. He continues to impact the body of Christ and the lives of many people,” Mr Oborevwori added.
The governor praised Mr Oritsejafor’s commitment to Delta, Nigeria and the Christian faith. He said the cleric had raised men, women and children who were making a positive impact across the world.
Mr Oborevwori urged believers to emulate spiritual leaders and uphold the values they preached.
