Nigeria’s Flamingoes are through to the round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco following a 3-1 over reigning champions North Korea on Friday evening.

After losing 2-1 to Poland in their opening match before beating Puerto Rico in their second game, the Nigerian girls needed a win against North Korea to keep their campaign on track and they delivered in spectacular fashion.

Oluwakemisola Adegbuyi opened the scoring for Nigeria 15 minutes into the match before Oluebube Umejiaku doubled the advantage for the West African side in the 38th minute.

Rodiat Yusuf scored Nigeria’s third goal 11 minutes into the second half but Yu Jong-Hyang pulled one back from the penalty spot late in the match to deny Nigeria a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, Poland thrashed Puerto Rico 6-2 to put themselves in a better position of reaching the round of 16 as one of the best four third-place teams.
