Wife of the Anambra State governor, Nonye Soludo, has hailed the dedication, sacrifice and resilience of nurses, saying their commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families and uphold the dignity of communities.

Mrs Soludo, also the founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, made the remark on Tuesday in a message to mark International Nurses Day.

International Nurses Day is observed every May 12 to mark the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, pioneer of modern nursing, and to honour nurses for their role in healthcare systems.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Our Nurses” Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”

Mrs Soludo said the contributions of nurses were beyond medical duties, as they brought hope, comfort and humanity to healthcare and the society at large.

She described nurses as “unsung heroes” whose compassion and dignity continue to transform healthcare delivery.

“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who often stays awake through the night, offering reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety while providing care with patience, strength and love.

“The world is healthier, kinder and safer because of the invaluable role you play,” she said.

She wished nurses a happy International Nurses Day and urged them to sustain their commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
