Cricket: Sharks crush Dolphins to revive Super League campaign

Southern Sharks defeated Western Dolphins by 48 runs on Sunday, bouncing back strongly from their opening defeat in the Nigeria Super League.
The match was played at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos.
Southern Sharks, after winning the toss, elected to bat and posted an imposing 176 for seven in 20 overs.
Isesele Odion Evangel led the assault with 54 off 31 balls, striking 11 boundaries in a fearless innings.
Kenneth Boniface added 47 from 25 deliveries, while Akhigbe Miracle contributed 28 to lift the innings.
Evangel said, “We knew we had to respond strongly after our first game, and everyone contributed.”
Western Dolphins bowlers Udekwe Chiemelie and Monday Elijah claimed two wickets each but struggled to contain the scoring.
Chasing 177, Dolphins lost wickets early and never fully recovered in their pursuit.
Captain Vincent Adewoye scored 35 from 21 balls to keep hopes alive briefly.
Destiny Chilemanya and Udekwe Chiemelie also made useful contributions in the chase.
Southern Sharks bowlers remained disciplined and controlled the match throughout the innings.
Ayeni Precious and Ismail Abdullahi claimed two wickets apiece as Dolphins were dismissed for 128 in 16.4 overs.
Akhigbe Miracle also impressed with ball and bat in a fine all-round display.
Southern Sharks skipper said, “This is the reaction we wanted. The players showed character and intensity.”
Evangel was named Player of the Match for his match-winning half-century and commanding performance.
The Nigeria Super League has continued to showcase exciting contests and emerging cricket talents across the country.
