Former Governor Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, Shehu Sani, and Sunday Katung have emerged winners of the All Progressives Congress’ senatorial primary elections in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 polls.
Mr Yero won the APC Kaduna North senatorial district primary election with 6,060 votes, defeating Muazu Mukaddas, who scored 1,044 votes, while Bala Ikara polled 362 votes.

The returning officer, Samira Jibrin, announced that Yusuf Zailani garnered 1,021 votes, while Shettima Yerima, who had withdrawn from the race, polled 1,253 votes.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Mr Sani expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna for their support.
“There is no better representation of the people of Kaduna State than me being their lawmaker and Uba Sani being the governor,” he said.
The former senator also thanked his supporters for giving him another opportunity to represent them and commended Mr Yerima for stepping down from the race.
He urged all aspirants to unite and work for the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.
Mr Sani pledged to focus on addressing poverty, unemployment and other national challenges through effective representation and attracting more federal projects to the constituency.
Meanwhile, Sunday Katung emerged winner of the APC Kaduna South senatorial district primary election after defeating Danjuma Laah and Michael Ayuba.
Announcing the results at the collation centre in Jema’a LGA, the returning officer, John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.
According to him, Mr Katung polled 7,453 votes to defeat Mr Laah, who scored 1,370 votes, while Auta secured 878 votes.
Reacting to the outcome, the chairman of Zangon Kataf LGA, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the result as a reflection of the wishes of the grassroots and a demonstration of the party’s internal democracy.
Mr Gaiya expressed confidence that the APC would secure overwhelming victories for Mr Sani, Katung and other party candidates in the 2027 elections.
He also called on aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and party unity for the progress of the party.
