A 36-year-old man, Abdulahi Salawu, has been arraigned before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged assault of a neighbour.

Salawu, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful assault levelled against him.

The court’s President, O. E. Owoseni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mrs Owoseni added that each surety must show a valid means of identification and an electricity payment receipt from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Subsequently, she adjourned the matter until June 7 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant allegedly smashed a plank on the head and hand of one Bala Umar, his neighbour.

The crime was allegedly committed on March 17, at about 2.40 p.m. at Darlington Street, Mokola, Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000.
