Man, 66, arraigned over alleged N800,000 tricycle sale fraud

A 66-year-old man, Muji Bello, on Thursday stood before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to answer charges bordering on alleged N800,000 tricycle sale fraud.
Bello, whose residential address was not stated, is standing trial on charges of conspiracy, obtaining money by false presence, theft and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in November 2023, at the Agodi area of Ibadan.
He alleged that Bello and others now at large, obtained the sum of N800,000 from one Yekini Salami, under the pretext of selling to him a new tricycle.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant knew his claim was false as he allegedly sold the tricycle to another person after collecting money from the complainant.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 249(d), 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She consequently, adjourned the case until July 22, for hearing.
