The Federal Fire Service has advised residents of the Federal Capital Territory to strictly adhere to all fire safety rules as Muslims commemorate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

The FFS spokesperson, Barnabas Anyam, gave the advice in an interview in Abuja on Wednesday.

The command’s comptroller, Muhammed Anas, urged residents not to hesitate to contact the command during emergencies by dialling 08032003557.

According to Mr Anas, the service, aside from ensuring fire safety, also provides other emergency services such as drowning rescue services, building collapse rescue, among others.

Mr Anas said that it was imperative for residents to be proactive in ensuring safety in their environment by purchasing fire extinguishers and fire blankets, and to be extremely cautious when handling cooking gas.

He noted that the festive season saw many kitchen and cooking activities, which required the use of gas or kerosene, hence the need to apply all safety measures.

Mr Anas also advised parents not to be carried away by the festivity and not to allow children to handle flammable materials.

He directed all station commanders to ensure that all firefighters in their jurisdictions remained available and 100 per cent ready to tackle any fire emergencies across the territory.
