Trump promises $5,000 dividends if Republicans win midterm elections

Donald Trump has promised a $5,000 federal “dividend” to every adult American if Republicans win both chambers of Congress in the November midterm elections.
Mr Trump, who made the promise at the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, moved to get voters to choose Republicans in the elections.
The U.S. president, however, did not disclose how the scheme would be implemented.
“If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,” Mr Trump said.
The U.S. president noted the condition would be that the money would have to be spent in the U.S.
“There is a crazy little sick cloud over our country. We will defeat communism in America,” he added.
The convention was meant to woo voters in the midterm elections as the Republicans struggle to maintain control of Congress amid war with Iran.
“Vote Republican and we will leave the world in our dust for generations to come,” Mr Trump added.
The U.S. president used the platform to address issues including tariffs, the importance of destroying Iran’s nuclear program, among others.
Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee in Texas, hailed Mr Trump for standing up for Texas.
“I need your prayers, your vote and your support. If we lose Texas, we lose the common sense revolution. If we lose the common sense revolution, we lose America,” Mr Paxton said.
