Akinola Idowu, Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, has charged residents of the area to embrace the state’s reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation for its many benefits.

Mr Idowu gave the charge during Saturday’s environmental sanitation exercise at the council’s secretariat.

According to Mr Idowu, cleanliness is a collective responsibility and vital for preventing diseases and promoting healthier communities.

Mr Idowu commended residents who participated in the clean-up, urging the adoption of proper waste disposal habits and the maintenance of clean homes, streets and business premises.

He said that the Lagos State Government’s reintroduction of the exercise in April reflected its commitment to a cleaner, safer and sustainable environment.

The chairman disclosed that the council acquired an additional waste compactor, bringing the total number to two, to enhance waste collection and disposal.

He urged community leaders, market associations and youth groups to mobilise residents for regular environmental sanitation to ensure collective participation.

Mr Idowu said that sanitation should not be seen as a monthly activity but as a continuous responsibility requiring cooperation from all residents.

He assured residents of the council’s commitment to environmental sustainability and pledged intensified awareness campaigns to foster a culture of cleanliness.
