The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ismail Yusuf, has commended the Nigerian media contingent in Saudi Arabia for the 2026 hajj.

Mr Yusuf, who gave the commendation in Makkah on Sunday, said that the professionalism and efficiency with which the Nigerian journalists reported the exercise was particularly impressive.

He stated, “Thank you for the work you have done so far, I am very impressed with the quality of the report that you have done. I thought that I should meet with you and convey the appreciation of the commission personally. I want to commend your expertise and your professionalism in the face of extreme stress.”

According to him, NAHCON is embarking on a series of reforms to ensure improvement in future hajj operations.

He noted that such reforms also included creating a more conducive working environment for the media

“We know that we do not have the resources to compensate you enough, otherwise, we know the kind of job you do. We know the hazards involved, we know how far you have to trek sometimes. We are very happy with the level of professionalism and the patience that you displayed,” he said.

Also speaking, NAHCON’s Commissioner for Personnel, Research, Information and Library Services, Prof. Abubakar Yagawwal, thanked the journalists for providing both professional and moral support to the commission during the hajj.

“We appreciate your efforts in reporting the Hajj activities and the operation. This year, most of the reports have been very much positive, therefore, we thank you abundantly,” he stated.
