Three Royal Navy officers were killed in a helicopter crash during a training exercise in Devon in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Royal Navy confirmed the personnel were flying in a Royal Navy Merlin Mk4 when the aircraft encountered difficulties and came down in a field near Sourton, close to Okehampton, at about 4:00 a.m.

The officers were identified as Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, 31, Lieutenant Commander Chris Grayson, 42, and Petty Officer Owen Green, 24.

Witnesses reported seeing a “bright red flash” as the helicopter went down, triggering a major emergency response involving multiple rescue teams.

Defence chiefs described the officers as “dedicated and highly valued professionals.”

Lieutenant Fisher was a highly accomplished pilot-in-training with exceptional talent for sports, representing the country at the regional and national levels in netball, lacrosse, and pole vault.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, as the Royal Navy and emergency services continue to review the circumstances.
