Football’s world governing body FIFA announced that Colombian singer Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats star Damini ‘Burna Boy’ Ogulu will perform at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City on June 11.

The international body, in a statement, said the artists would perform ‘Dai Dai,’ the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for the first time, setting the stage for an unforgettable tournament opener.

FIFA stated, “As the build-up to the first whistle at the FIFA World Cup 2026™ enters its final stretch, FIFA has added yet more star power to the line-up for the opening ceremony to be held in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June, with Shakira and Burna Boy set to perform Dai Dai, the Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Song in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

“The highly anticipated performance will set the stage for an unforgettable tournament opener, bringing together fans from around the world in celebration of football, music and culture.”

The governing body disclosed that the superstars, Burna Boy and Shakira would perform alongside artists including Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná and Tyla.

“‘Dai Dai’ will resonate throughout a tournament that will connect billions of people through the world’s most beloved sport,” FIFA stated.

It noted that the artists would headline the show expected to begin 90 minutes before the kickoff of the opening match.

The opening ceremony is one of three planned for the tournament, with the remaining two events billed for the United States and Canada. The United States of America, Canada and Mexico are co-hosting this year’s World Cup. .
