Authorities in Ireland have launched an international manhunt for a yet-to-be named chief suspect involved in the stabbing of 21-year-old Nigerian-Irish gig promoter Qayyum Balogun to death during an altercation in Dublin.

The Peoples Gazette on Wednesday reported that Mr Balogun was killed near Bewley’s Cafe, where he had spent Sunday night into Monday morning before a brawl erupted, which resulted in a 14-man group chasing victims across streets before being him stabbed to death.

According to reports, Irish police have now discovered the identity of the suspect, who was allegedly the main instigator of the attack on Mr Balogun but the attempt to apprehend the individual has turned into an cross borders operation.

The Irish Mirror reported that the suspect is a man in his 20s who was already on bail for an alleged knife attack last year and managed to flee from Ireland to Northern Ireland before boarding a ferry to Scotland. 

Police reportedly recovered the knife used to commit the crime from the scene off Clarendon Street, with authorities subsequently discovering blood at a house in south Dublin, where one of the suspects was believed to be residing. 

The knife and blood recovered from the house, which authorities believe were crucial pieces of evidence in the investigation, have been sent for forensic analysis.

Additionally, the attacker allegedly posted a video apparently mocking Mr Balogun in the aftermath of the incident, stating “rest in p***” but later wiped clean his social media presence.

Reports, however, mentioned that Gardaí have retained the video as part of their probe.

Meanwhile, Irish authorities alongside both Northern Ireland and Scotland law enforcement agencies are actively working together to locate and arrest the fleeing alleged killer. 

Also, Gardaí are still pursuing other persons of interest connected to the case. 

Joshua Brodericks, a 25-year-old man accused of being part of the group that attacked Mr Balogun, appeared in court on Friday on four charges of assault causing harm and violent disorder. 

He was not charged with any crime specifically against the victim. Another female individual who is an acquaintance of the main suspect was released on Wednesday without any charge.
