Canadian authorities have launched a manhunt for 19-year-old Zara Jabbi, alleged shooter of a Toronto Police Service (TPS) officer Constable Marc Pinizzotto.

The TPS stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when officers were conducting a high-profile raid in search of Mr Jabbi over his alleged involvement in a shooting outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto in March.

During the operation in North York, which was part of a series of five coordinated search warrant executions, multiple gunshots were exchanged, resulting in the death of Mr Pinizzotto, 43, after being struck by bullets.

The father of 14-year-old twins and 18-year veteran at the TPS reportedly received emergency care from members of the Toronto Tactical Paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police also said that another 19-year-old suspect identified as Nicholas Bennett was shot by officers during the incident and was receiving treatment. He is expected to be charged with first degree murder.

“We want to thank members of the public for their outpouring of support following the tragic loss of Constable Marc Pinizzotto. Constable Pinizzotto was killed in the line of duty this morning while executing a high-risk search warrant as part of a coordinated series of five warrants.

“During the incident, a suspect was shot by police and remains in hospital. Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto, will be charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Constable Pinizzotto,” the TPS stated.

Meanwhile, police warned the public against approaching the fleeing Mr Jabbi if seen, saying he is considered armed and dangerous.

“Another individual, Zara Jabbi, 19, remains outstanding. He is wanted in connection with the March shooting at the U.S. Consulate and is considered armed and dangerous.

“If you see him, do not approach. Call 911 immediately. His image has been released to assist in locating him,” the TPS stated.

The TPS Chief Myron Demkiw said in a statement that the service was saddened by Mr Pinizzotto’s demise.

“Myself, and President Clayton Campbell of the Toronto Police Association, met with Marc’s family at the hospital to confirm this devastating news – they are grieving a profound loss,” Mr Demkiw said.

He added, “Words cannot describe the pain they are feeling. Marc served the Toronto Police Service for 18 years, including five years as a specially trained Emergency Task Force unit member.

“This loss will have a profound impact on the Toronto Police Family. Our Service, our members, and all members of the larger policing family are deeply saddened.”

Recall that Peoples Gazette reported that another 29-year-old Ontario Provincial Police Constable, Tarun Bali, was crushed to death with a car by a 18-year-old mental health patient, Justin Veronneau earlier this week.
