Manchester City has lodged an appeal against Tuesday’s decision by the Premier League Independent Commission, which found it guilty of breaching the league’s financial regulations over several years.

The club was also found guilty of failing to cooperate with the Premier League in its investigation into the offences reported to have taken place between 2009 and 2018, allowing City to fraudulently inflate their revenue by more than £900 million in the period under review.

In a statement on Friday, Manchester City said it filed the appeal on Thursday evening, citing opinions expressed in the Independent Commission’s ruling and points of law.

“Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, 1st October 2026, the Club lodged its comprehensive appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter.

“The club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors of law, principle and fact and is unsafe,” the club said.

City once again denied the allegations against the club, while noting it would provide irrefutable evidence of innocence at the appeal.

“The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League, and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions relating to this case.

“We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete,” the club added.

Meanwhile, England’s Football Association said on Friday that the independent commission’s ruling was significant and that it has begun reviewing the judgement and its implications to consider whether appropriate actions are warranted from the association.
