Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has charged the new Head of Service, Adenike Fasina, and two commissioners appointed to work with others in the state executive for the benefit of the people.

Mr Makinde gave the charge at the swearing-in of Ms Fasina and the duo of Lateef Oyeleke and Ayobami Ojo as commissioners on Monday in Ibadan.

He said their appointments were based on competence, performance and recognition of years of diligence and distinguished service to the state across different fields.

The governor stated that his government has thrived because appointments were based on merit and excellence rather than sentiments.

While congratulating the new appointees, Mr Makinde urged them to be loyal to the government, discharge their duties effectively and put in their best for the continuous growth and development of the state.

The new commissioners were immediately assigned portfolios, with Mr Oyeleke to serve as Commissioner for Special Duties, while Mr Ojo heads the Budget and Economic Planning Ministry.

Meanwhile, Faosat Sanni, who previously served as Commissioner for Special Duties, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry.

Mr Makinde said that with Mr Fasina’s inauguration as Head of Service, his administration has upheld the 35 per cent affirmative action policy for women in public office.

The governor added that his administration would continue its commitment to improving the public service, while also advancing the broader development agenda of the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing lives and property in the state and urged residents to use the Oyo State toll-free emergency number 615 to report suspicious activities in their communities.

Mr Makinde also reassured families of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA, as well as Nigerians, that the government was working to ensure their safe return.
