The police command in Delta State has apprehended two serial robbery suspects in the state.

The spokesman for the command, Bright Edafe, stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Warri.

He said the suspects were linked to a series of robbery incidents within Ughelli and its environs.

Mr Edafe also said that the suspects were arrested on Sunday by the operatives of the command’s anti-vice squad in collaboration with the Ughelli Vigilance Group, following credible information from the public.

According to him, acting swiftly on the information, the team, in a coordinated intelligence-driven operation, stormed the Okorodafe area of Ughelli and arrested one of the suspects, aged 29.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in several robbery operations, including a robbery incident that occurred on April 20 at Aro Street, Ughelli,” Mr Edafe said.

The command’s spokesperson said the suspect, thereafter, led the operatives to their hideout in Ughelli, where another suspected member of the gang, aged 26, was arrested on the same day.

He said that the duo were currently in custody of the police, adding that the command had intensified effort to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.

Mr Edafe said that in another development, the command recovered assorted illicit drugs from a suspect who was currently at large.

He said that the exhibits were recovered on Sunday by the command’s anti-vice squad while on a stop-and-search duty on the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway.

“Police operatives intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle. In the course of a routine search and questioning, the driver suddenly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

“In spite of an immediate pursuit by the operatives, the suspect escaped from the scene,” he said.

Mr Edafe said that a comprehensive search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

According to him, the suspected illicit drugs include codeine, tramadol, Swinol, Man G, and Vega.

He said that the exhibits had been taken into the custody of the police, adding that investigations had commenced to identify, locate, and arrest the fleeing suspect.
