Residents of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State expressed excitement over the commencement of the rehabilitation of Nureni Road in the Kollington area.

The residents, who spoke separately with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos, described the project as a welcome development capable of improving mobility, boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life.

Nureni Yusuf Road had become difficult to use due to potholes, stagnant water, and erosion, causing hardship for motorists, traders, schoolchildren, and other road users.

The poor condition of the road had for years hindered vehicular movement, especially during the rainy season, when sections of the road became waterlogged and nearly impassable.

One of the residents, Taiwo Bello, said the commencement of rehabilitation work had renewed residents’ confidence in local governance.

According to Mr Bello, the deployment of construction workers and equipment to the site demonstrates the council administration’s commitment to addressing the infrastructure needs of the people.

“The road is not yet completed, but residents are already encouraged by the progress being made. For a long time, we have experienced difficulties using this road. Seeing work ongoing gives us hope that the challenges will soon be resolved,” he said.

Also speaking, Aishat Yekini commended the council for responding to the needs of residents, particularly traders who rely on the road for the transportation of goods and services.

Ms Yekini said the rehabilitation would reduce transportation difficulties and facilitate easier movement within the area.

“This project will have a positive impact on business activities. Traders and residents will benefit greatly when the road is completed,” she said.

Another resident, Ola Samson, described the project as timely, noting that residents, especially schoolchildren and commuters, had endured considerable hardship due to the road’s poor condition.

Mr Samson expressed optimism that the intervention would improve safety and ease movement for residents.

“Parents have always been concerned about the condition of the road, especially during the rainy season.

“We are happy that the council has taken steps to address the problem. We look forward to the successful completion of the project,” she said.

Also, another resident, Funke Oyetade, lauded the council chairman for prioritising infrastructure development, saying the project would contribute to the socio-economic growth of the community.

According to Ms Oyetade, improved road infrastructure will encourage commercial activities, enhance accessibility and improve residents’ standard of living.

“When completed, the road will make transportation easier and create a better environment for businesses to thrive. It is a project that will benefit everyone in the community” she said.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, the LCDA Chairman, Oluyemisi Rosiji, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and improved service delivery.

She said the rehabilitation of Nureni Yusuf Road formed part of ongoing efforts by her administration to improve road networks and promote sustainable development across the council area.

“The rehabilitation of Nureni Yusuf Road is ongoing, and we remain committed to ensuring sustainable development and improved connectivity across Ojokoro LCDA,” she said.

According to her, investment in quality infrastructure remains critical to economic growth, improved connectivity and community development.

She assured residents that her administration would continue to implement people-oriented projects aimed at addressing critical needs and improving the welfare of residents at the grassroots level.

She added that the council would sustain efforts to provide infrastructure capable of supporting economic activities and enhancing the living conditions of residents across the LCDA.
