Equatorial Guinea’s government has been disbanded following the resignation of Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua over the failure of his administration to meet its objectives. 

Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue announced Mr Nsua’s resignation and that of all members of the government in a statement posted on X on Tuesday. 

“The Prime Minister of the Government, in charge of Administrative Coordination, Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua, has today presented to the President of the Republic the en bloc resignation of all members of the Executive during the extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers,” Mr Obiang said. 

In an additional statement posted by Democratic ‌Party ⁠of Equatorial Guinea, Mr Obiang, who is also the son of Equitorial Guinea long-serving President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, noted that the outgoing government barely met 10 per cent of its targets. 

“The decision responds to the principle that responsibility in public management must be accompanied by results,” the vice president stated. 

He added, “The state makes significant human, material and financial resources available to the government to respond to the needs of the population, so the degree of execution achieved is clearly insufficient in relation to expectations and commitments made.”

Mr Nsua’s resignation came two years as the head of the outgoing government following his appointment by President Obiang. The 84-year-old is the world’s longest-serving leader after coming to power in 1979.

He has since maintained a strong grip on the oil-rich Central African country, while appointing family members to key government roles.
