Isyaku Bawa-Naibi, Chairman of Suleja Local Government Council, has banned articulated vehicles, particularly fuel tankers, from using the township roads as transit routes.

He also approved the deployment of a special security enforcement team to ensure the implementation of the order, which was issued to safeguard lives and property.

This is contained in a statement by Haruna Kaninko, Chief Press Secretary to the Suleja Local Government Council, on Sunday in Suleja.

The chairman said the measure followed the deteriorating condition of the Maje–Diko Road, which had forced many vehicles to seek alternative routes through the township.

He said that this development poses a serious threat to the safety of residents and their property.

According to Mr Naibi, the decision was taken to avert the potential danger associated with the movement of petrol tankers and other articulated vehicles within densely populated areas of Suleja.

He emphasised that the safety of lives and property remained the highest priority of his administration and that every necessary step would be taken to prevent avoidable accidents.

Mr Naibi added that the continuous use of township roads by these vehicles had the potential to cause extensive damage to roads not designed to carry such loads.

“This will not only increase the cost of road maintenance but also create unnecessary hardship for residents and motorists.

“To ensure strict compliance with the directive, a joint security patrol team comprising the Police and other relevant security agencies had been stationed at strategic entry points.

“They include Kaduna Road Junction and Maje, to prevent trailers and other heavy-duty vehicles from gaining access to Suleja township roads,” he said.

Mr Naibi called on transport operators, drivers and the public to cooperate fully with the security personnel by complying with the directive in the interest of public safety and the protection of critical public infrastructure.

He reiterated that the council’s commitment to implementing policies and initiatives that promote safety, security and the well-being of all residents while preserving public assets for sustainable development.
