Divorce: Abuja housewife promises to return bride price to estranged husband

A housewife, Fatima Lawal, has prayed the Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Abuja, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Saifullahi Ademu.
Ms Lawal accused her estranged spouse of domestic violence, neglect and lack of care.
Ms Lawal, who resides in Angwa Baba Mai Doky, Mararaba, urged the court to dissolve their one-year, five-month marriage.
She said that Mr Ademu married her under Sharia Islamic law.
“My Lord, I have no peace in my marriage. My husband beats me constantly. He does not provide for me. I have seen it: he does not love me anymore,” she said.
She further alleged that Mr Ademu sold her personal items, including a pot worth N70,000, a bedsheet worth N40,000 and a phone worth N20,000.
“Ademu paid N90,000 as a bride price, and I am willing to refund the amount to him. I also want the court to order him to pay for my items worth N230,000,” Ms Lawal said.
Mr Ademu, however, denied all his wife’s allegations.
The judge, Mohammed Shomo, gave the petitioner one week to produce her witnesses in court. He adjourned the case until July 6 for a hearing.
