Venezuela Earthquakes: Death toll almost 2000

The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, has said fatalities from the twin earthquakes that occurred in the country on June 24 have risen to nearly 2,000.
Mr Rodríguez, on Tuesday, in a statewide broadcast said a total of 10,571 people have been confirmed injured following the incident.
“Until this Tuesday, June 30, there were 1,943 dead people, the number of injured is 10,571. Fourteen transitional camps are already enabled in the state of La Guaira and 55 between Caracas and the other affected states,” the parliament’s head said.
“We set up 50 large temporary camps in the states affected by the two earthquakes last June 24, to fully assist those who lost their homes in this tragedy. Likewise, a multidisciplinary team is deployed evaluating the affected buildings,” he added.
The death toll in Venezuela continues to increase following two separate earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 which struck areas including La Guaira, Yaracuy, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, Falcón, Lara and Mérida.
The incident has drawn global attention, caused major damages including increasing number of casualties, collapse of an estimated 58,000 buildings and prolonged search for several missing persons.
The tragedy in the South American country also caused mass displacement, destruction of public property including healthcare facilities, disruption of aircraft activities particularly at Simón Bolívar International Airport, including a humanitarian crisis.
