NDC accuses Abuja hotels of discriminating against opposition political parties

Mr Director said the incidents were undemocratic.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to restrict opposition activities and shrink the democratic space in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, alleged that some hotels in Abuja were discriminating against the party by withdrawing previously granted approvals for the use of their facilities for political meetings.

“The NDC has not just been a target of violent attacks by agents of the ruling and ruinous APC, it has become a soft target of discrimination by hoteliers and the hospitality industry in Abuja,” he said.

Mr Director alleged that Rockview Hotel had twice cancelled agreements to allow the party to use its facilities for meetings at the last minute.

He said the first incident occurred in June 2026 when the hotel reportedly withdrew its approval for the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

“Only recently, they refused our utilization of their facilities for a meeting, saying it was order from above,” Mr Director said.

He also accused BON Hotel in Wuse, Abuja, of refusing to allow the party to use its facilities for a meeting despite meeting its conditions.

According to him, the recent unveiling of the party’s National Campaign Council (NCC) was also almost disrupted by the hospitality industry in Abuja.

“At the last minute, our host called the party to refund the payment made, saying they were no longer interested in making their facilities available, perhaps based on threats and orders from above,” he added.

Mr Director said the party’s refusal to withdraw from the arrangement eventually compelled the hotel to allow the event to proceed.

He stated that the incidents were undemocratic and urged the APC to allow political parties to hold campaigns without hindrance.

He also called on Nigerians to hold Rockview Hotel and BON Hotel accountable for what he described as their anti-people and anti-democratic actions.
