The Nigerian Army has inaugurated a newly constructed regimental sergeant major accommodation at the 51 Signals Brigade, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, to boost soldiers’ welfare.

The accommodation was inaugurated on Monday on behalf of army chief Waidi Shaibu by the general officer commanding (GOC) 1 Division and commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, Abubakar  Wase.

Represented by the chief of staff, 1 Division, Timothy Opurum, the GOC, said the project was executed under the army’s Special Projects Programme. He said the initiative reflected Mr Shaibu’s commitment to improving infrastructure to enhance the welfare, morale and operational effectiveness of personnel.

Mr Opurum said soldiers’ welfare remained a top priority of the army chief, adding that providing standard accommodation for RSMs would create a conducive living and working environment.

According to him, the project will motivate soldiers to maintain the highest standards of discipline, dedication, and professionalism in discharging their constitutional responsibilities.

He urged the beneficiary to take ownership of the facility and ensure proper maintenance, stressing that preserving military infrastructure was a collective responsibility.
