The presidency has commended the scale and quality of infrastructure development in Imo, describing projects executed by the Governor Hope Uzodimma administration as evidence of purposeful leadership.

The commendation followed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in collaboration with the Presidential Communications Team.

This was announced in a statement by Tunde Rahman, the spokesman for the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, on Thursday.

The delegation, comprising members of the Presidential Communications Team and more than 40 senior journalists, inspected completed and ongoing projects across the state.

Among the projects visited were the Imo Digital City, a 2,000-bed Infectious Disease Centre and the Heart Transplant Centre at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital.

Others are the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre expansion and a state-owned five-star hotel.

Speaking during the tour, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said Imo was aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through impactful infrastructure and human capital investments.

“We saw a 2,000-bed infectious disease centre at almost 85 per cent completion. We saw the oxygen plant and the revitalisation of a healthcare facility that had been abandoned for years.

“These are projects that directly impact the people, and that is what Renewed Hope is all about,” Dare said.

The team also inspected the ongoing 19-kilometre Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Border Road linking Imo and Anambra States.

Dare said the road would tackle gully erosion, improve interstate connectivity, facilitate commerce and promote regional integration.

He also praised the state’s intervention in resolving accreditation challenges affecting graduates of Imo State medical schools, describing it as a boost for healthcare delivery and medical education.

Dare further lauded the Heart Transplant Centre and the Imo State University of Innovation, Science and Technology, saying both projects aligned with the Federal Government’s vision of building a knowledge-driven economy.

He attributed the pace of development in part to increased Federation Account Allocation Committee receipts for states.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the increased FAAC allocation from the federal government. We have seen how APC governors are utilising these resources for impactful infrastructure development,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the Uzodimma administration would continue to prioritise people-centred projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
