Sanwo-Olu walks runway at Lagos Fashion Week

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, walked the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, showcasing a collection by Nigerian fashion designer Ugo Monye.
Mr Sanwo-Olu, who joined professional models on the runway at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, drew cheers from the audience as he participated in the designer’s presentation.
In a post on his Instagram handle, the governor said he had a great time on the runway, describing Lagos as a growing hub for fashion, creativity and culture.
“I had a great time on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week.
“Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture, and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth.
“I am proud of our creatives who continue to push boundaries and put Lagos firmly on the global fashion stage,” he said.
Mr Sanwo-Olu said the state’s creative community had continued to contribute to positioning Lagos on the global fashion map.
The appearance was not the governor’s first runway experience at the event, as he made his debut in October 2023, when he walked the runway to close Nigerian designer Emmy Kasbit’s presentation.
His latest appearance, therefore, marked his second documented participation in the fashion showcase since assuming office in 2019.
Lagos Fashion Week, founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, is an annual platform established to promote Nigerian and African fashion by connecting designers with buyers, retailers, investors, media practitioners and other industry stakeholders.
The event has evolved beyond runway presentations to include initiatives supporting fashion entrepreneurship, talent development, business growth and sustainable production practices.
The 2026 edition, themed “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.”, held from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, bringing together designers and other stakeholders to showcase African creativity and explore opportunities within the fashion industry.
The event has continued to attract local and international attention, providing opportunities for emerging and established designers to showcase their collections and connect with the global fashion market.
