The police on Tuesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Andrew Marvelous, before a Magistrates’ Court in Kubwa, Abuja, over alleged theft, unauthorised withdrawal of money and threat to kill his parents.

The defendant, who resides behind L.E.A. Primary School, Byazhin, Abuja, was arraigned on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, theft, unauthorised withdrawal of money from his mother’s bank account and criminal intimidation.

The prosecutor, Okpa John, told the court that the defendant conspired with his brother, Micheal Andrew, now at large, to steal their parents’ generator from their residence.

Mr John also said that the defendant took his mother’s automated teller machine (ATM) card and withdrew N3,000 from her bank account without her knowledge, authority or consent.

He further stated that the defendant threatened to kill his parents after they confronted him over the alleged theft of the generator and the unauthorised withdrawal from the mother’s account.

The prosecutor said that the complainants reported the matter at Byazhin Police Station, where the defendant was arrested following police investigation into the allegations made against him.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 97, 287 and 396 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Oyepeju Mustapha, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Mustapha directed the court registrar to verify his residential address before his release and thereafter adjourned the matter until August 3 for hearing.
