Commonwealth Games: Nigeria’s Lawal, Didih win weightlifting gold

Nigeria’s weightlifters continued their impressive outing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with Folashade Lawal and Onome Didih winning gold medals.

Nigeria’s weightlifters continued their impressive outing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with Folashade Lawal and Onome Didih winning gold medals.

Lawal produced a flawless performance to win the women’s 58kg title after completing all six attempts across the snatch and clean and jerk.

The Nigerian lifter recorded a combined total of 229kg to finish atop the podium and secure another gold medal for Team Nigeria.

In the women’s 53kg event, Didih delivered a record-breaking performance to claim Nigeria’s fifth gold medal of the competition.

She set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a 93kg lift before raising the standard again with 113kg in the clean and jerk.

Didih also established a new Commonwealth Games record with a combined total of 206kg to seal a dominant victory.

India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav finished second with a total lift of 199kg to win silver.

Canada’s Rebeka Groulx claimed the bronze medal after recording a combined total of 178kg.
